Choose the Right PFD for Your Adventure
THE MINIMALIST (SUP & Fishing)
Inflatable Belt Packs
The ultimate low-profile option. Worn around the waist like a fanny pack, it stays out of your way while paddling. Manually inflates when you pull the cord. Note: Must be worn to be legal.
THE ALL-ROUNDER (Boating & Watersports)
Foam Vests & Neoprene
Classic protection with modern styling. No inflation needed—just inherent buoyancy. Essential for tow sports, high-speed boating, or anyone who wants maximum peace of mind in the water.
THE FURRY FRIEND
Dog Life Jackets
Not all dogs are natural swimmers. Our rugged dog vests feature grab handles (for lifting them back into the boat), bright colors for visibility, and extra floatation under the chest to keep their head above water.
Are You Legal? The Transport Canada Checklist
- One Canadian-approved PFD (Personal Flotation Device) appropriate for their size.
- A Sound Signaling Device (Whistle).
- A Buoyant Heaving Line (Throw rope) - Required for SUPs and Boats.
- A Watertight Flashlight (If operating after sunset).
Water Safety in Canada: What You Need to Know
Understanding PFD Types
Inflatable PFDs
Popular for SUP because they are lightweight and cool in summer. However, they are only legal for persons 16 years of age or older and must be worn at all times on an open vessel to count as your safety gear.
Standard Foam PFDs
The best choice for children, non-swimmers, or high-impact watersports (like tubing or wakeboarding) where you will definitely hit the water.
Paddle Boarding (SUP) Laws in Canada
Transport Canada classifies a Stand Up Paddleboard as a Nautical Vessel when it is not in the surf zone.
That means you are legally required to carry a PFD, a whistle, and a throw line. Failure to produce these during a patrol check can result in a significant fine.
Why Buy From Canadian Board Co?
We are a family-run business in Kelowna, BC, and we use this exact gear to keep our own kids and dogs safe on Okanagan Lake. Most of our PFDs meet Canadian Safety Standards (Transport Canada approved).
Note: Some models are USCG-approved only - check product descriptions for Canadian compliance.
